4 Reasons Why You Should Always Carry A Book With You

Your guide to a better life… JK

Reading books has become my religion for a couple of years now. I always have a book in my bag or pocket (I have very large pockets).

I like to have something to read wherever I am, especially at boring family gatherings that always end up in a dramatic fight between my cousin and one of my aunts (it always ends up in one of the best fights ever, trust me).

With my current reading challenge, I have to have a book with me at all times if I want to keep up. So even if I go on a walk, I must have a book on me in case I find a cool place to sit.

There are more reasons why carrying a book with you can be good. Including:

1. You always have something to read:

Whether you are at a coffee shop, bus station, or waiting for someone who likes to take their time and low-key forgets that you are supposed to meet, you would have something to do.

I hate it when I have free time that goes to waste instead of using it to read. However, I love opening a book in a crowded station. It calms me down and takes me out of that noisy environment. I also look very hot when I read in public.

I also love reading when I’m riding the bus or the train. I think I love public transportation just because it gives me time and peace to read. Yes, I find public transportation peaceful.

2. You have something to sit on:

That’s what she said.

Although I don't condone sitting on books, it can be really practical if you are wearing something pretty and clean.

I find myself sitting in odd places sometimes like dirty ass stairs or the curb. While my mother hates the fact that I ruined most of my pants, I’m just not ready to sacrifice my books yet.

3. You have an excuse to ignore people:

This is probably my favorite thing about reading in public. I like to go to a nearby tram station, plug my AirPods on, and just read. The downside of this location is that a person I am no longer on talking terms with lives there so I have to hide. I hope that they don't read this hehe.

Reading in public kind of protects you from other people. I personally wouldn’t bother someone who is reading because I know how engaged they are in their book and wouldn’t want to be disturbed.

If only everyone understood that and left us, readers, alone.

4. You have a weapon to use against your enemies:

Ah yes, this is why women in the 1800s liked to read. So that they could use their leather-bound books as weapons and get away with it because no one would suspect a weak woman who only reads (sighs in Jane Austen).

If someone attacks you while you are holding a hardback, they better run and fear for their lives.

In all seriousness (that sounded weird as I am anything but a serious woman), reading is really fun. I wish everyone could see just how fun it is.

You get to travel to other worlds and even back in time without leaving your couch. You get to live a thousand lives and learn from each one.

As an author who has two books to publish yet feels cowardly and scared of other people’s opinions, I want readers to feel the same way I do when they read my books (assuming I ever publish them). I want to affect someone’s life with my words.

I wanted to keep this one short and light (like me hehe).

Until next time, go read a book.
